Oudere man (90) verdient wat bij om te kunnen eten: ‘Zodat ik niet hoef te verhongeren’
An American veteran, aged 90, is able to retire thanks to the assistance of a supermarket customer where he used to work.
Until recently, the man had to continue working to meet his basic needs. Many people in the Netherlands are facing financial difficulties, but on the other side of the world, the situation is often even more distressing.
This veteran from Louisiana is a poignant example of this. Dillon McCormick, now 90 years old, was working daily at a supermarket until last week.
His duty was to retrieve shopping carts left in the parking lot. Despite his advanced age and limited mobility, he had to walk to work and spend long days under the scorching sun.
A customer, Karen Swensen Ronquillo, noticed him and inquired why he was still working. His response was heart-wrenching: “So that I can eat.”
